Getting the better of Silly Season

As the year rolls on, we find ourselves fast approaching the festive season. After nearly two years of dealing with Covid-19 protocols and heightened difficulties associated with the pandemic, it’s a relief to welcome a time of rest. With year-end in mind, we are battening down the hatches to give one final push to finish 2021 on a positive note.

“Silly Season” is named as such because people tend to let their guards down and become complacent with safety protocols. Negligence breeds accidents and misconduct, so we need to maintain our focus to meet our targets. This is also a time where people may be tempted to play practical jokes on others to lighten the mood and cut corners to lessen their workload, but horseplay can result in serious injuries.

It’s no surprise that the last few months of a year can be taxing and eventually take a toll on our mental health. Year-end is often the busiest time as we push to close out projects and work extra hours to meet deadlines, but our personal health cannot be compromised. Let’s be aware of our colleagues’ wellbeing and support one another. If you are struggling with your workload, don’t be afraid to speak up and communicate with your superior.

Regardless of the time of year, we should continue to uphold the company values with which our brand is synonymous. The pace of our work shouldn’t be an excuse to neglect the very principles that make us who we are. Our sound operations, excellent customer service and prompt deliverables underpin our reputation in the markets we serve, so let’s keep up the company culture that enables Phakamisa to thrive.

“At Phakamisa, we certainly know how to go the extra mile and right now, we cannot afford for our employees to slacken safety procedures or grow distracted,” said Nkosinathi Nathi, HR and IR Manager. “During this time, we urge our staff to stay alert so we can avoid careless mistakes and be proud of our output.”

As a Phakamisa family, we are all on the same team. We commit ourselves to safe conduct because we want to see each employee make it safely to the end of the year. A well-deserved break awaits us where we can rest up, enjoy the festive season and return to work refreshed.

Even though it’s not quite time to get into the holiday spirit, we encourage our employees that the end is in sight. Understandably, we all lose a bit of steam towards the end of the year, but we still strive to be at the top of our game during this crucial period before we take time to switch off in December. Let’s keep strong and continue lifting each other up.
